August is all about dill!

This ancient herb is an aromatic herb that has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes for thousands of years. The ancient Greeks and Romans saw dill as a sign of wealth. They also used it to promote good digestion. The Egyptians used it as a medical herb.

Today, we most often think of it as the flavorful component in dill pickles, but it is also used in soups,

stews, salads, with fish, and it is also a component of our Nerdy Girls Farm Veggie Broth Powder.  It has a distinctive taste that is slightly tangy. It is naturally an antimicrobial – which it uses to help preserve foods. Dill is full of vitamins A and C and contains folate, iron, and manganese which of course means that dill pickles are a health food! (Kidding… mostly.)

Dill has even been used as a symbol of luck and protection in some cultures. A sprig of dill would be placed in the home to ward off evil spirits.

The Nerdy Girls Farm dill may or may not help ward off evil spirits, but it will most definitely bring an enhanced flavor to your summertime potato salad and grilled salmon. It pairs well with sour cream, cheese, green beans, cucumbers, cabbage and even breads and biscuits.
